Khon Kaen
University Life and Major Healthcare in Isan
Explore the Town ↓Life in Khon Kaen
University life and major hospitals anchor this central Isan city. Khon Kaen is made for anyone who puts everyday services and housing value ahead of a historic or coastal setting.
Khon Kaen is a young, modern city built around a great university and two hospitals of more than a thousand beds each. It has an elevated double-track railway station, an airport, lakes in the middle of town and the lowest condo prices of the eight.
Khon Kaen has the best medical care in the northeast, on seismically quiet ground: it is outside every regulated seismic zone and far from any coast, with a freehold condo market deep enough to use.
- There is little historic fabric.
- Spring is hot, and April hotter.
- Dry-season haze is common.
- The foreign community is smaller than Udon Thani’s, so expect less English and fewer ready-made networks.
- Bangkok is about an hour away by air.
- An overnight train of about 8 hr runs to Bangkok’s Krung Thep Aphiwat station.
- Route 2 runs south to Korat and Bangkok.
