Hua Hin
The Royal Seaside Town the Railway Built, on the Quiet Side of the Gulf
Explore the Town ↓Life in Hua Hin
A royal railway history, seaside markets and a long-established foreign community shape Hua Hin. Hospitals and rail connections make a Gulf-coast stay easy well beyond the tourist season.
Hua Hin is Thailand’s first beach resort, founded on a railway line and a royal summer palace and now one of the country’s most settled retiree towns, with long sand, a real hospital, golf, markets and a double-track railway to Bangkok.
Hua Hin has the cleanest hazard profile in the country for a town with full daily-life depth: the lowest regulated seismic band, a Gulf coast with no Andaman tsunami source, distance from the northern burning-season smoke and the driest climate of the eight.
- Resort sprawl spreads along the coast.
- The condo market carries a lot of unsold stock.
- There are no flights to Bangkok, so every long-haul arrival ends with a transfer of about three hours by road, or longer by rail.
- Fly into Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi (BKK) or Don Mueang (DMK) airport.
- From the airport, Hua Hin is about 3 hr by road. Trains from central Bangkok take from 3 hr 14 min on the new double-track line.
